Encephalitis from Varicella Zoster Virus
Encephalitis is the widespread attack of inflammation of the active tissues in the brain while encephalomyelitis involves the inflammation of the brain and spinal cord which affects an estimated 2.5 million Americans. This is often caused by viral infections which can then progress into something more complicated if not treated. Infections such as varicella zoster virus (VZV) which is often presented as shingles could potentially lead to encephalitis with it occurring in every 33,000 – 50,000 cases of VZV. This project consists of evaluating the factors that lead up to the development of encephalitis starting with the foundations.
