Do Not Resuscitate Orders in Covid-19 Patients

This internship focused on how to reduce suffering at the end-of-life by improving quality medical decision making. During the course of the year, I have worked on multiple studies related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our first study determined prevalence, predictors, and outcomes related to do not resuscitate (DNR) orders in Covid-19 positive patients. Our second study determined patient and clinical characteristics associated with receiving monoclonal antibodies for patients with COVID-19. During this internship, I was involved in conducting literature reviews, collecting original data on patients hospitalized with COVID-19, as well as with the process of interpreting and publishing the results of our studies. I was able to work with research teams on both the palliative care service, as well as from a COVID-19 therapeutics committee. The therapeutics committee used my work to help determine treatment algorithms and protocols for distributing resources and treatments to COVID-19 patients.
