RBT Intern

I work for a small company called Integrity ABA, it helps children and families better accommodate the caregivers with their children who are on the autism spectrum. Daily I am responsible for one-on-one play and therapy with children ages 10 to 2. I assist in implementing behavioral plans to get them ready for school, the dentist, haircuts, and social settings. Lastly, I am learning a lot about ABA therapy and the roles of these jobs in sensitive populations. I did have to get certified to do this job and go through three-week training alongside other ABA therapist and I did just get certified as a registered behavioral therapist (RBT) this week. So, what that means is I can work in any ABA therapy center that deals with autistic children or children on the spectrum. Daily I am responsible for one-on-one play and therapy with children ages 10 to 2. I usually have about two clients a day, work with them for about four hours each Tuesdays and Thursdays and their therapy is grounded on the children exercising free play but still getting work done and targets (targets are when you get an accomplishment done for the child.) I can help each of the children work towards their target goals, bathroom schedules, making their own food, sitting at a table for longer than 5 minutes, getting prepared for the dentist or Barber or the doctor. Then, most importantly getting them ready for school and being around multiple children throughout the day; exercising group play and social targets. I think something positive from this internship is it is giving me an outlook on more job opportunities because I had to get certified to work there so it is nice to have that RBT certification on my resume.
